A steaming double helping of Ross

Rick Perry, aided by the sideshow campaigns of Kinky Friedman and Carole Keeton Strayhorn, has managed to hold on to the governership of Texas. These kinds of Perot-ish campaigns do nothing but pull votes from one or other of the main party candidates. This is based on an assumption that enough votes would have gone to Democrat Chris Bell to put him over the top with the Libertarian candidate taken into consideration.

Does that mean there shouldn't be write-in or indie candidacies? No, not at all. I just wish they would just run for office instead of stirring up people's emotions with lounge acts and folksy one-liners which end up pulling votes away from a viable challenger.
